River trekking or river trekking is a form of trekking that combines the classic elements of walking with some elements taken from other sports.
Traditional in Japan and popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan, it is somewhat related to canyoning as it is a combination of trekking and climbing that applies techniques within a river bed.
The peculiarities of this sport are: the use of details such as typical and wet ground climbing, exploiting the understanding of the geographical characteristics of the river and learning the knots and the study of cartography to abort the descent if necessary .
The river is the same where the previously mentioned activities are practiced, namely the Nera, and here the question spontaneously arises: “How do you cross the Nera river on foot with the water that rushes down from the Marmore waterfall?“.
This is because the Marmore waterfall is artificial and there is the possibility to open and close the dam from where the water comes.
Precisely in this way, every day at certain times the dam is closed and the water flow decreases from 14 cubic meters per second to 1 cubic meter thus lowering the water level.
